A brand new festival is debuting in Savannah this year-- The Food and Wine Festival! From November 11th to the 17th, get ready for a week long celebration of all things culinary and wine. With new events everyday, there’s something for everyone, whether you’re a wine connoisseur or just staying in Savannah with an appreciation for good food. Here are some in depth looks at some of the most anticipated events:
The River Street Wine Stroll: On the evening of November 17th, all of historic River Street will be open, with restaurants and merchants hosting wine and spirit tastings and along with the perfect culinary pairings. The beautiful cobblestone street is packed with history, and if you’re lucky you might even see one of the giant freight ships enter or exit the port. Tickets are $40 per person.
The Grand Reserve Tasting: If you’re a connoisseur of wines looking for the very best, this event is for you. Held on November 14th at the Westin Harbor Golf Resort and Spa, it’s the cream of the crop, showcasing the best wines on the market. With each wine for tasting at a value of $50 or more per bottle, it’s an experience not to be missed. The tickets are $125 per person, and there are a limited number available, so the event is sure to be a sellout. There will also be a silent auction with one of a kind wine lots, luxury travel, merchandise, and services for sale, but even if you don’t win in the auction, every attendee will get a guaranteed souvenir of fine stemware that they used for tasting.
Celebrity Chef Tour: On November 13th, hungry people everywhere will gather at 700 Drayton, the restaurant of The Mansion on Forsyth Park for the ultimate collaboration dinner. Five different celebrity chefs have gathered to each create a course for the meal to end all meals, also each paired with a wine of the chef’s choice. Celebrity chefs include: Chef Elizabeth Terry, Chef Steven Satterfield, Chef Hugh Acheson, Chef Chris Hastings, and Chef Geir Kilen. Tickets are $195 per person, so be sure to come ready to eat!
The Riverboat Wine and Dinner Cruise: On November 15th, Host Chef Chrisopher Myhre of Savannah Riverboat Cruises will be joined by Food Network celebrity, Chef Anthony Lamas, and host vinter, Joy Sterling. The boat departs from historic River Street, and will give a spectacular view of the harbor sunset. It’s truly a one of a kind evening. Tickets are $89 per person.
Michael Mondavi Family Estate Dinner: Taking place on November 16th at the Westin Harbor Golf Resort and Spa, the Mondavi Family is a leader in the world of wines, and will contribute some of the finest wines from the Napa Valley. The main event of the evening will be the opening of a rare Robert Mondavi Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon from the 1971 vintage. This wine has been in the family’s personal wine cellar for nearly 40 years, and is only opened now, in celebration of the inaugural Savannah Food & Wine Festival. The meal will be four courses, and tickets are $225 per person.
