| From OfficialSavannahGuide.com Local News The Savannah economy stands to enjoy hundreds of millions of dollars surrounding next year's 2004 G8 summit. President George W. Bush recently chose Sea Island, a resort 60 miles south of Savannah where his parents spent their honeymoon more than 50 years ago, as the site for the the 2004 G8 summit.
Sea Island was chosen, in part, because it's seclusion will allow for incredibly tight security. All of the international journalists are expected to be based in Savannah. However, recent international gatherings such as the World Trade Organization meeting in Seattle two years ago and the recent G8 in Europe were plagued by violent demonstrations by opponents of capitalism. Will the benefits be worth such a moment on the world stage? -- Talk about this event in the Savannah Georgia Current Events Forum
