Visiting Savannah? Careful Where You Park

Visiting Savannah is a wonderful experience. Seeing the charm and beauty of our historic district, the squares, the beach will make a memorable trip.

The first tip to remember is the despite the rich history of downtown Savannah that dates back to 1733, the downtown area is an active area of business and commerce and parking spaces are at a premium.

Savannah's parking patrol is notoriously aggressive in ticketing cars who either don't pay the parking meter or allow it to run out.

Look for passenger loading zones at many downtown establishments. Parking is limited to the expedient loading and unloading of passengers, but it's the best way to unload the family before finding a parking place.

Parking spaces are hardest to find on Johnson Square (the first square and center of Savannah's banking community) and along Broughton Street, where you'll find many great shops and restaurants.

Parking is easier to find south of Broughton Street. You'll find the parking meters allow for longer parking durations the further south you move away from City Hall and Broughton Street.
