City of Savannah Prepares for November Elections

The City of Savannah will hold their Municipal Elections on Tuesday, November 4, 2003. The Polls will open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 p.m.

The Clerk of Council serves as the Election Supervisor. The City of Savannah contracts with Chatham County Elections Board to conduct the elections.

The Mayor and all eight aldermanic positions are up for elections. The elections are nonpartisan and in a three or more race, the candidate must receive 50% plus one vote to be declared the winner. If not, then a run off is held between the two candidates receiving the most votes.

The run off is scheduled for Tuesday, November 25, 2003 after the General Elections. The terms of office are for four years for all nine positions, beginning January 1, 2004.

The Mayor and two Aldermen at-large positions are elected city wide

The six aldermen positions are elected only in their district. The candidate must be a resident of the City and their district not less than six months.

The Mayor's salary is $42,000 and The Aldermen's salary is $14,500.
