Pulaski Square

Pulaski Square

Pulaski Square - Savannah, Georgia

Welcome to Pulaski Square! Compared to other Savannah squares, this one feels a tiny bit secluded, but come see this square to enjoy some of the biggest oak trees in all of Historic Savannah and gorgeous scenery in this peaceful town square that's well maintained.

Sit and stay for awhile on the park benches and soak in the scenery. You may find yourself talking to a local Savannah resident walking their dog or hear someone playing the guitar. You may even see a marriage proposal. The area is so lovely its been the site of many romantic proposals -- not to mention weddings.

Flowering shubberey accents this picturesque spot that feels like its off the beaten path. At the intersection of Barnard and West Harris, there are no neighboring hotels or cafes bordering the square. It's surrounded by private residences and a dormitory for the Savannah College of Art & Design

Pulaski Square is named for Count Casimir Pulaski, a Revolutionary War Hero, who died in the Siege of Savannah in 1779. The square is two blocks east of Bull Street -- a major North/West road in downtown Savannah. Along Bull Street is Monterey Square -- often mistaken for Pulaski Square -- with a large monument at the center dedicated to Count Pulaski. That's right, Count Pulaski has a moment that is not in Pulaski Square but another one. Go figure!

In Pulaski Square you can find a serenity that takes your mind off the daily grind. If your on vacation, then you'll be going to many places in Savannah that are crowded. Be sure to plan a few sightseeing hours in some of Savannah's more quiet spots. Pulaski Square is one of the spots. It's a place you can enjoy the silence.

Note: In addition to Pulaski Square being named in honor of Count Casimir Pulaski, one of the forts that played a significant role in Savannah's history during the 19th century, Fort Pulaski, is also named after him.
